We will use this website A LOT this year! Feel free to poke around!
This is A WEEK.
What a great first day! I am so proud of my students! They did a wonderful job of settling in and getting right to work!
It’s going to be a SUPER YEAR!
I am absolutely THRILLED to announce that our class has been selected to receive a donated set of Walking Classroom materials!
Read about this wonderful program HERE
Through the generosity of sponsors, we will be getting a classroom set of MP3 players loaded with specially made Grade 5 Common Core English Language Arts podcasts.
What will we do with these amazing materials?
We will WALK! And LISTEN! Every day!
Numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of combining physical activities with academic studies. Here are some studies from The Walking Classroom’s website:
My goal for this program is to give students the opportunity to get out, move around, and provide additional materials to students with various learning styles. I think we all can benefit from the fresh air, exercise and innovation this program will provide.
I feel the program will be motivational and FUN! Our kids are already “plugged in”, and the class is very excited to get started!
I will be keeping you updated with our progress!
Attention!
Gum is ALLOWED for NECAP!

New students and families… make sure you book mark this site! I have lots of plans for improvement for this website this upcoming school year!
Leave a comment and say hi!
Happy summer everyone!
Just a brief note to let you know Edublogs now has an iPhone/iPad app! I’m posting with it right now!
Look for it in the App Store!
Is this thing on?
Hey, it’s summer! And I’m working!
On what?
Planning the new school year! If you are a new fifth grader, make sure you bookmark this site. Lots of good practice links will be available to you.
In the next few weeks, I will be posting new links for important skills for new fifth graders. These are skills you should have ALREADY mastered. If you are not strong in some, you are going to find fifth grade challenging. Make sure you PRACTICE a lot, so the begining of school will be a breeze for you!
We did it! We finally had some time to dedicate to the arduous task of the initial set up of our blogs. Students were very patient, and we were able to not only have a blog, but start making some personal choices like themes!
I am challenging my students to spend some time looking at other blogs. Starting from my blogroll on the right, visit other students in our class as well as some other classes around the world! You also can blog from home, using the username and password we created today.
A reminder, I do need to approve all your posts and comments, so please make sure you email me at laura.benjamin@cumberlandschools.org and let me know you have one (or five!) in the hopper!
Have a great long weekend!
How do you feel about that? What have you been up to? Please comment and let me know.
I have been busy getting ready for the new year! What? Working in the summer? You bet! I use this time to look over the past year and to think about what worked well and what I can add to the mix to make things even more interesting! I visit other teacher websites to get ideas for my website. I also look to see what kinds of activities they do, and sometimes I even borrow those good ideas!
I have updated our website: http://www.mrsbenjamin.com with a school supply list and rebooted the rest of the pages for a fresh start.
I hope my former students go ahead and create their own blogs. And more importantly, post in them! If you make a blog, please let me know so I can see what you have done!
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I will be back in touch soon!
Mrs. B
